This is a graph of the sources of domestic bullion deposited at the Dahlonega Mint, 1848-1856, in dollars. Note the significant influx of gold from the California gold fields in the early 1850s. Unfortunately, the opening of the San Francisco Mint in 1854 greatly reduced this welcome supply of gold for the Dahlonega Mint. Source: The Carl Lester Collection. |
